Every year our church family joins with over 46,000 churches across America to participate in the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering For International Missions. 100% of the contributions collected go to support 3,515 missionaries scattered around the world who are sharing the gospel and seeking to make disciples.
This offering in named in honor of Lottie Moon. Growing up in Virginia during her teen years, she and her siblings chose to reject Christianity. But, at the age of 18, she became a follower of JESUS and she was baptized. When she was 33, she sailed to China as a missionary in 1873. She saw firsthand the world’s greatest problem: Lostness. She stayed 40 years in that country as a single Christian woman to seek to make disciples among the vast spiritually lost population in China.
Her main point of contact with America was letter-writing. In her letters to Christians in the US, she would plead for increasing prayer support and giving for international missions. Her letters were inspiring, and they motivated people to give financially to support missionaries on the mission field as they shared the gospel.
Matthew 28:19-29 is called the Great Commission. It says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
While GOD has not called us to pack up our bags and go overseas full-time, He still holds us accountable to be obedient to the command of the Great Commission – Make Disciples of all nations. How do we obey this command? By giving. Our gifts serve as financial support for our 3,515 missionaries. It provides each of them a place to live and the funds to carry out their mission to share the gospel with lost people.
Our churchwide goal is $20,000. Let’s give generously and sacrificially.
You will find offering envelopes in the worship center in the pockets of the seat in front of you or near year. There are still 3,072 people groups around the world who do not have a gospel witness. Our contributions will enable more missionaries to engage with these people groups as they seek to make disciples of JESUS CHRIST.
